A footballer has appeared in court, accused of murdering another non-League player during an altercation at York Station. James Hitchcock, from Cottingham in East Yorkshire, who played for Barton Town FC, sustained serious injuries on December 15 after a night out in York. He subsequently died in hospital on Wednesday. Mckenzie Dicicco, 22, of Belgravia Gardens, Middlesbrough, whose playing history includes Thornaby, Northallerton, and Pickering football clubs, appeared at Leeds Crown Court earlier. He was charged with murder and affray. Mr. Dicicco was further remanded in custody until his next hearing on February 5, and a provisional trial date has been set for July. Barton Town FC has paid tribute to Mr. Hitchcock, characterizing him as a “popular but quiet” member of the first team. The goalkeeper had previously played for Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic and is survived by his wife and young son. As a mark of respect, all Barton Town FC games scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled, the club announced.
