Plymouth Argyle head coach Wayne Rooney has characterized Coventry City’s decision to dismiss long-serving manager Mark Robins as “crazy,” while Oxford City head coach Des Buckingham has described the frequent changes in managerial positions within the EFL as “scary.” Robins, who commenced his second tenure as the Sky Blues’ manager in 2017, had his contract terminated on Thursday following a challenging start to the current season. Speaking to BBC Radio Devon, Rooney elaborated on his view, stating: “I think it’s crazy, I really do.” He continued by highlighting Robins’ achievements: “What he’s done over the last few years for Coventry City – I think it’s two play-off finals, an FA Cup semi-final, consistently had them in a good position in the league.” Rooney concluded, “Then he loses his job maybe because of a few bad results, I think it’s absolutely crazy.” With Robins’ departure, Paul Warne, who took over as Derby County manager in 2022, now holds the distinction of being the longest-serving manager in the Championship. Oxford boss Buckingham also shared his perspective, remarking: “You never like to see anyone lose their job, especially Mark Robins who’s been there for years, but that is nature of this role.” He added, reflecting on the rapid turnover, “I haven’t even been here a year yet and I sit quite highly in among the longest serving managers across the English Football League, which is pretty scary.” Post navigation Pundits Discuss Ross County’s Assertive Performance Swansea Manager Williams Expresses Caution Regarding ‘Very Capable’ Luton
