Michael Bull, a 69-year-old football supporter, is advocating for CPR education after surviving a cardiac arrest at his home stadium in 2018. Mr. Bull experienced a severe medical emergency, collapsing in the car park during a Lincoln City football match. He has since become involved with the Every Minute Matters national initiative, which seeks to instruct individuals in this vital emergency technique. Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Bull emphasized that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) “can literally save a life.” Mr. Bull recounted that he lost consciousness in the Sincil Bank car park after witnessing his team’s 3-2 victory over Exeter City. A friend discovered him and promptly sought assistance. Within 30 seconds, police officers in the vicinity began administering CPR. Subsequently, other emergency personnel and paramedics utilized a defibrillator on him. The long-time supporter of the Imps informed the BBC that “for about eight minutes nothing was happening.” Mr. Bull further stated: “I was dead. The fact my friend found me straight away, probably within a minute, and the police were there another 30 seconds later and started CPR, that’s what saved my life.” He stressed the significance of immediate action, adding, “Having the confidence to do it can literally save a life. I’m here and I wouldn’t have been. It’s that important.” Lincoln City FC extended an invitation to Mr. Bull to visit the club stadium, where he met team captain Paudie O’Connor. O’Connor characterized the effect of learning CPR as “massive,” remarking: “It’s quite straightforward. It’s not rocket science but being able to do it can, literally, save a life. It can go a long way.” The Every Minute Matters campaign, a collaboration between Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation, commenced in May. According to a spokesperson, nearly 150,000 individuals have received CPR training since its inception. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
