The Luton Sikh Soup Kitchen, which offers hot meals to homeless individuals, was compelled to refuse service to some people after exhausting its food supplies. This organization, established three years prior, consistently operates in the town centre on Sunday evenings. Gurch Randhawa, a volunteer, stated: “We’re finding a lot of people are moving out of London and being relocated into hostels here.” He further noted that for many, “This is usually the only hot meal people have had that day, sometimes even that week.” Dishes like lentil dhal and pasta are prepared at the adjacent Guru Nanak Gurdwara. These meals are then distributed in the town centre, supplemented by food contributions from local supermarkets and bakeries. Jamie, a homeless individual, described the food as “something to fall back on.” He shared his current situation: “I’m sleeping rough at the moment in car parks and stairwells. Now it’s cold I’m trying to find somewhere indoors.” Jamie emphasized the importance of food assistance, stating, “Getting help with food is a life saver really. It is the only guaranteed hot meal I get today.” He expressed “big respect for people who come out and do this,” concluding, “It’s a relief to know there are people out here to help.” Nikolasz, originally from Hungary, is another recipient of the soup kitchen’s aid, currently residing in a Luton car park. He informed the BBC, “I lived in Hackney in London but my landlord sold the house.” He relocated to Luton with the aim of securing employment as a driver and maintains communication with the homeless charity Noah. Nikolasz elaborated on his living conditions: “I am living with my wife, we’ve found a car park. The wind and rain is a big problem, and it’s about four degrees, zero degrees.” Javeria Hussain, a local councillor and volunteer at the soup kitchen, commented: “One of the beauties of Luton is we’re always united in supporting people less fortunate than ourselves.” She highlighted the significance of such efforts, stating, “That’s why initiatives like this are really important to ensure nobody goes hungry.” Hussain further remarked, “These bare essentials ensure people can survive through winter.” Post navigation Maidstone Nando’s Closure Linked to Pest Control, Council Report Confirms MasterChef Winner Dan Merriman Reflects on His Origins
