A folk festival has secured a new site for its upcoming events, following its departure from its long-standing venue after the land was put up for sale. For 12 years, FolkEast took place at the Glemham Hall estate, situated near Woodbridge, Suffolk. The festival’s founders had been actively seeking an alternative location for 2025. The festival’s YouTube channel revealed that the Sotterley Estate, located near Beccles, will serve as the new venue for the event scheduled for August of next year. Becky Marshall-Potter, who co-founded FolkEast with her husband John, stated that additional details regarding the new location would be provided at a later date. The couple had previously conveyed their emotional sentiments about leaving Glemham Hall. In an interview with BBC Radio Suffolk in August, Mrs Marshall-Potter remarked, “Glemham has been our home for 12 years and when you’ve worked on a site like this you know every hole, every tree, every bit of this land and it’s absolutely beautiful.” She further described the venue, stating, “It’s a home for three weeks for us, so it’s like our summer holiday home.” Mr Marshall-Potter commented, “All these years here we’ve learnt how to use this site to our best advantage and it is a lovely site.” He also suggested, “The event has grown here really nicely but it could kind of be a reset for the whole thing.” Glemham Hall, a 16th-century country house, was listed for sale at £19 million earlier in the current year. The property, marketed by Strutt & Parker, is reportedly no longer available for purchase.
