Fleetwood Town has dismissed manager Charlie Adam, bringing an end to his initial managerial appointment. His tenure, lasting just under a year, concludes following a period where the team secured only one victory in their last 11 league matches. The club, known as The Cod Army, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Barrow on Saturday. This loss represents their fifth defeat within a sequence of games that also featured five draws. Furthermore, the team was eliminated from the FA Cup in the first round during an away fixture at Reading last month. Adam, a former midfielder for Liverpool, assumed the managerial role on New Year’s Eve 2023, succeeding Lee Johnson. This appointment marked his initial venture into football management. The 39-year-old manager was unable to prevent the Lancashire-based club’s relegation to League Two at the conclusion of the previous season. Presently, the team occupies the 18th position in the league standings, maintaining an eight-point lead over the relegation zone. Jamie Pilley, Fleetwood’s owner, issued a statement saying: “I’d like to personally thank Charlie for his commitment and professionalism over the last 12 months.” He added, “He’s been a pleasure to work with but recent results meant we felt a change was necessary. I wish him well for the future.” Fleetwood’s upcoming fixture is scheduled to be a home game against Chesterfield on Boxing Day.
