Sentences have been delivered to five individuals who were part of a group involved in manufacturing drugs at an industrial facility. In October 2019, Humberside Police conducted a raid on an industrial unit situated on Winterton Road, Scunthorpe. During the operation, officers discovered machinery and raw materials capable of producing thousands of etizolam tablets, a type of tranquilliser classified as a Class C drug in the UK. Hull Crown Court was informed that the confiscated chemicals possessed a potential street value of up to £2.5 million. Judge Mark Bury, when delivering the sentences previously, stated that all defendants had “played a lesser role” in the illicit operation and gained minimal or no financial benefit from it. He further commented that they had “risked their liberty for hardly anything.” Anthony Florides, 33, residing on Morley Road, Scunthorpe, was found guilty of conspiracy to produce a Class C drug and conspiracy to supply a Class C drug following a three-week trial held earlier. He received a sentence of two years in prison, suspended for two years, and was mandated to complete 25 days of community service. Abigail Comerford, 34, of Peacock Street, Scunthorpe, admitted guilt to charges of conspiracy to produce a Class C drug and conspiracy to supply a Class C drug. She was given a 16-month jail term, suspended for two years. James Raithby, 29, from Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, admitted to charges of conspiracy to produce a Class C drug and conspiracy to supply a Class C drug. He was handed a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. John McCallum, 38, of Glen Bervie, East Kilbride, Glasgow, entered a guilty plea for conspiracy to supply a Class C drug. He received a 16-month sentence, suspended for two years. Luke Jones, 31, formerly residing on Somerset Walk, Milton Keynes, admitted to the charge of conspiracy to produce a Class C drug. He received a sentence of 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to pay a fine of £2,500.
