An animal welfare organization has stated that fireworks displays in Guernsey this year have resulted in animals becoming “lost and distressed.” The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) reported an increase in “more private firework events over a longer period of time than in some years.” Steve Byrne, the GSPCA manager, commented, “This year we have been involved with and heard of a number of instances that have led to lost and distressed animals, owners and public due to the number of events.” Both the GSPCA and Guernsey’s Lost & Found Pets are soliciting feedback from island residents regarding fireworks and their impact on animals. Mr. Byrne also stated, “Thankfully, as yet, we haven’t seen any wildlife injured needing rescuing and our care due to fireworks this month.” He further mentioned that the States of Guernsey’s register and alert page for fireworks had “certainly helped islanders know in advance when events and where they take place.” Post navigation Blackened Watercourse Sparks Wildlife Concerns at Nature Site Southern Water Unveils New App for Monitoring Sewage Overflows
