Firefighters were dispatched to extricate two horses that became trapped inside a horse box following its collision with a fallen tree. Personnel from Tavistock and Yelverton fire stations participated in the rescue operation, which took place in the village of Mary Tavy on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the Tavistock fire crew reported that the horses had a “lucky escape” and were successfully removed from the vehicle “uninjured”. In a separate incident, fire crews responded to reports on Monday at approximately 08:50 GMT concerning a small, elderly dog that had fallen into the River Tavy. The fire service spokesperson stated, “Crews donned water rescue and safety equipment before entering the river and bringing the dog back to dry land uninjured.” The spokesperson also issued a strong caution: “Whilst it is difficult to resist the temptation to try and get into the river to help in these circumstances, we would strongly advise against anyone getting into any river due the risk of cold water shock or being swept away by currents.” To receive updates, follow BBC Devon on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
