A proposal for the construction of 201 new residences on land in Coventry has received its final authorization. Bellway Homes, the developer, is set to build these properties on former green belt land situated off Tamworth Road in Keresley. Coventry City Council granted approval for the project, notwithstanding some local opposition, which included 13 letters of objection from residents. Local inhabitants voiced concerns regarding the environmental impact and the capacity of existing local services to manage the increased demand. Councillor Jaswant Singh Birdi also voiced opposition, citing issues with “flawed” population figures, the proximity of a woodland buffer, and provisions for site traffic. Officials indicated that only four of the objections presented constituted “material” concerns that could influence a decision. These concerns encompassed flooding, public transport, emergency vehicle access, and an absence of housing options for older individuals. However, officers affirmed that the specific details of the scheme, referred to as “reserved matters,” adhered to all the council’s established policies and guidelines. The report indicated that no official body had opposed the proposal, provided certain conditions were met. Follow BBC Coventry & Warwickshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram.
