A community Christmas gathering is set to return to the sole remaining canalside stable block in the Black Country. This complimentary celebration, which includes the creation of giant-sized Christmas decorations and carol singing, will take place at Dudley Canal on Saturday, commencing at 16:30 GMT. The Canal & River Trust, the event’s organiser, confirmed that the Delph Stables event is being held for the third consecutive year. The scheduling of this gathering was made possible through funding provided by the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund. Each year, a dedicated team comprising both employees and volunteers from the canal charity has crafted new oversized decorations “to make the event memorable”. The Brierley Hill Musical Theatre Company will perform Christmas songs alongside the canal, and Christmas carols will be sung by Albion Street church. Children will have the opportunity to meet Santa, and complimentary tea and coffee will be provided. Councillor Adam Davies, representing Brierley Hill & Wordsley South, who has collaborated with the charity on this initiative since 2022, stated that it is an “event for everyone to enjoy”. Mr Davies further added: “The Canal & River Trust teams and volunteers have put so much effort in to make this event special, so we hope lots of people will be able to join us for this festive event.” Updates from BBC Birmingham are available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
