A father described learning his son was cancer-free as “the best feeling in the world.” Steve’s eight-year-old son Harrison, a player for Stoke-on-Trent’s Eastwood Hanley Little Eagles, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia earlier this year. Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Steve recounted feeling as though his world had ended upon receiving the diagnosis. However, a fundraising effort organized by football coach Damian Sasiak generated over £7,000, providing the family with “security” during Harrison’s weeks of treatment in Birmingham. Steve further stated that Harrison’s treatment was progressing positively, with recent tests indicating he was “cancer free,” though acknowledging that the journey was not yet complete. Regarding this development, Steve remarked, “It’s the best feeling in the world.” He added, “But obviously there is still 18 months treatment to go so there’s a bit of trepidation in there with it.” He also mentioned that they embraced any positive news following difficult periods, which community support had helped them navigate. Steve expressed, “We couldn’t believe that anyone would want to help, you don’t expect it.” He continued, “To see that much love in the community and especially from Damien we were astounded.” Mr. Sasiak, who established a GoFundMe page, stated that the fundraising surpassed expectations and extended gratitude to all contributors, including friends, families, and grassroots football fan pages nationwide. Steve described the coach as an “absolute legend” possessing a heart of gold. Steve concluded, “Alongside Harrison, he’s my hero.” Post navigation Gynaecologist Struck Off for Sexually Harassing Patient Inquest Hears Man Died Following Five 999 Calls Before Ambulance Dispatch
