A stabbing incident that occurred outside a school in eastern China has resulted in eight fatalities and 17 injuries. Local police issued a statement indicating that a 21-year-old man was apprehended at approximately 18:30 local time (10:30 GMT) at Wuxi Yixing Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College in the city of Wuxi. The statement further detailed that the individual, a 2024 graduate of the institution, carried out the attack after “failing to obtain his diploma due to poor exam results” and expressed dissatisfaction with his internship pay. Police reported that he confessed to his crime “without hesitation.” Authorities also stated that an investigation was under way and efforts were being made to “manage the aftermath.” This assault follows a separate event on Monday in the southern city of Zhuhai, where at least 35 people were killed when a driver ploughed a car into crowds at a stadium. Police attributed that driver’s actions to unhappiness with a divorce settlement, but the incident has sparked questions about a recent spate of public violence in the country. On social media, there have been discussions about the social phenomenon of “taking revenge on society,” where individuals act on personal grievances by attacking strangers.
