A man has died following a fire in a town centre flat. Emergency services were dispatched to the blaze on Main Street in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, at 5:45 GMT on Sunday. Cumbria Police confirmed the deceased was a man in his 40s, and another individual sustained injuries in what was characterized as a “major incident.” Reception facilities were established at the Methodist Church in Queen Square, as well as the Lunesdale Hall and Kirkby Lonsdale Institute, to assist residents and guests evacuated from nearby homes and guest houses. David Love, area manager for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, stated: “Early this morning we responded to a flat fire which subsequently spread into a three-storey commercial building on the High Street.” He added: “We’ve got 12 appliances, 10 from Cumbria, two from Lancashire, plus two aerial ladders.” Love further noted: “Firebreaks have been created to bring it under control.” Mr. Love also commented: “A number of people have been displaced from B&Bs, commercial properties, and they are in reception centres, being kept warm and fed.” He proceeded to commend local residents for their community spirit in aiding the emergency services and those affected by the fire. “It’s been really heartening to see,” he remarked. Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, advised the public to avoid the town area. She indicated that most of the individuals relocated from nearby properties were visitors, and that the council was providing them with assistance. St. Mary’s Primary School was opened to accommodate children who could not return to their lodgings. Superintendent Paddy O’Hara of Cumbria Police stated: “The cause of the fire is presently unknown. “Investigators from both Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and Cumbria Constabulary are on hand to enter the building as soon as it is safe to do so.” Post navigation Murder Arrest Follows Discovery of Woman’s Body Families of Australians Deceased in Laos Welcome Detentions, Seek Answers
