Fatal Collision Involving Van Claims Life of Woman in Her 80s

An elderly woman has died after being struck by a van. Northumbria Police reported that the incident occurred on Centenary Avenue in South Shields at 11:35 GMT. The vehicle involved, identified as a green and white Mercedes, was travelling south at the time of the collision. The road was closed for five hours following the event. Police are currently conducting an investigation and have issued an appeal for witnesses, as well as for any relevant CCTV and dashcam footage. Sgt Dave Roberts stated: “I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the woman who sadly passed away.”
