The farmer involved in the altercation with former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott stated he holds “no regrets” regarding his action of throwing an egg, which initiated the confrontation. At the time, Craig Evans, then aged 29, directed his action towards Lord Prescott shortly after the latter disembarked from his campaign bus. Lord Prescott was scheduled to address a Labour Party general election rally in Wales in May 2001. Lord Prescott, an ex-boxer, reacted instinctively by turning and striking the farming protester, an event that subsequently led to him being known as “Two Jabs.” Despite remaining unrepentant concerning the well-known incident, Mr Evans, who resides on a farm in Denbighshire, offered his condolences following Lord Prescott’s passing, remarking, “it’s sad for his family and the people around him.” On Thursday, when questioned about the confrontation, Mr Evans, now a 53-year-old father of two, reiterated that he had “no regrets.” He mentioned receiving ongoing invitations to discuss the event on television programs but consistently declines them. He stated, “It was a long time ago.” He added, “It’s what I’m known locally for… I duck it all the time. I’ve ducked it for years. A friend phoned up just to say he had died… I would not wish that on anyone.” John Prescott, who was born in Prestatyn, passed away at the age of 86 after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Although his family relocated from Wales when he was four years old, he maintained pride in his heritage and consistently identified as Welsh. Following the altercation, Mr Evans was apprehended by police and taken away in handcuffs; however, neither he nor Lord Prescott faced any charges. In the month subsequent to the widely reported punch-up, the Labour Party secured victory in the general election.
