Faringdon Fire Station is scheduled for a £700,000 renovation project aimed at updating its on-site living quarters. This investment for Faringdon Fire Station originates from an Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) initiative focused on reducing the carbon footprint of its various properties. The work is slated to commence in January 2025 and is anticipated to conclude within approximately four months. Among the enhancements, new health and safety provisions will include facilities for cleaning breathing apparatus equipment. Additionally, the installation of thermal insulation, solar panels, and air source heating is planned to contribute to lowering the building’s carbon footprint. Dr Nathan Ley, OCC’s public health chief, stated: “This significant investment reflects our environmental credentials, and our commitment to provide the very best facilities for fire and rescue crews and support staff, always ensuring that health and wellbeing is taken seriously.” He further added, “This investment is also reflective of our commitment to look after all corners of our county.” Dr Ley also mentioned that personnel stationed at Faringdon would move to an alternative location within the town during the construction period, “ensuring there will be no disruption to emergency and community responses”.
