We solicited reader perspectives regarding whether Julen Lopetegui should address the limited playing opportunities for summer acquisitions, or if other factors contribute to the Hammers’ challenging start to the season. Below are some of the submitted opinions: Hooli commented that Niclas Fullkrug’s injury somewhat alters the circumstances, but found Crysencio Summerville’s previous lack of game time to be ill-advised. Hooli also noted that Carlos Soler has demonstrated little in his appearances and lacks significant pace. A primary concern for Hooli is the underperformance of Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio, and Emerson Palmieri. Hooli questioned Lopetegui’s efforts in nurturing younger players and advocated for Danny Ings to be played. Joe expressed a complete lack of regard for Guido Rodriguez, questioning his consistent inclusion in nearly every match. Joe described Rodriguez as too slow for the Premier League, stating he covers less than half the ground Tomas Soucek would. Joe recommended keeping both Rodriguez and Antonio on the bench for the current season, adding, “give the younger boys a chance!” Mike observed a lack of clarity regarding the team’s intended playing style. Mike indicated uncertainty as to whether Lopetegui is experimenting with formations to find an optimal setup or adapting tactics for individual opponents. Regardless, Mike concluded that the players appear unsettled and disoriented, with no discernible pattern of play. Dave highlighted that a substantial amount was expended during the transfer window, yet some of the acquired players have not been afforded game time. Dave strongly believes Lopetegui is unaware of his strongest starting lineup. Dave found it peculiar that £125m was invested in players while no funds were allocated for signing a manager, noting that Manchester United did so and secured “ours.” Dave concluded with a call for “Lopetegui out.” Sandi Toksvig is joined by Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi and Alan Davies Grab the mic for Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry and more… Ben Fogle and Kate Humble are back for the festivities at Longleat Safari Park From micro plastics in our air, soil, and waterways, to the extent of food waste at this time of year © 2024 BBC.
