A family reports the loss of over two decades of accumulated memories, along with gifts intended for their young daughter’s first birthday, following a fire that devastated their residence. The blaze, which also consumed their Christmas presents, is believed to have originated from an electrical fault at the property located off Holderness Road in Hull. The incident occurred at 23:30 GMT on November 29. Chris Pearson, the 49-year-old homeowner, stated: “I’m still trying to process it. You walk around and people have decorations up everywhere and it does get quite emotional.” According to a spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, the fire began accidentally, and the smoke alarms installed within the property did not activate. Mr. Pearson, who resides in the house with his daughter and three grandchildren, aged one, two, and six, has been a resident at the address for approximately 21 years. The fire originated in an upstairs bedroom before extending throughout the entire house. The family was not present at the residence when the incident occurred. Mr. Pearson detected smoke while walking along the terrace with his 24-year-old daughter, Kaitlin, but initially did not identify its source as their own home. His “natural reaction” prompted him to enter the house in an attempt to salvage belongings, subsequently leading to him suffering from smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported. Mr. Pearson stated that he attempted to rescue a few family photographs, but conceded that “everything is gone”. He remarked: “Obviously, I’m upset, but they’re possessions and they can be replaced. Life can’t, kids can’t and that was my main concern.” A relative has initiated a GoFundMe page online, and Mr. Pearson expressed that he was “amazed by the support”. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service commented: “Firefighters treated an adult for smoke inhalation and paramedics took them to the hospital for further checks. “The remaining rooms of the home suffered from smoke damage. “We, along with our fire service colleagues across the country, remind everyone to regularly check that their smoke alarms are working.”They give you those vital seconds to get out if a fire starts in your home.”
