The relatives of a young boy diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor completed a 10-mile walk to bring donated gifts to hospitalized children during the Christmas season. Elias, a four-year-old from Radstock, Somerset, received a diagnosis of a terminal brain tumor eight months prior, with a prognosis of nine to 12 months to live. His parents, Abbie and Jake, collaborated with the Somerset-based charity Time is Precious to gather these gifts. These collected items are scheduled for distribution to children on the wards at Bath’s Royal United Hospital on the following day. Approximately 40 individuals participated in the walk, which commenced at the Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley, Wiltshire, and proceeded towards Bath. A significant number of participants were dressed in costumes. The charity Time is Precious was established in remembrance of Nicky and Neil Halford’s son, Ben, who died at the age of five due to a brain tumor. The organization created a donation collection point at the Hive community cafe in Peasedown St John, located near Bath. Individuals selected tags from the Christmas tree, purchased the recommended presents, and brought them back to the cafe for wrapping. Elias was unable to participate in the walk due to his health, but his mother, Abbie, expressed that she was “really happy” with the level of participation. She stated, “Elias loves giving gifts out, and the response has been amazing.” She added, “We’ve got around 50 presents so that’s a lot of children who will be cheered up in hospital.” His father, Jake, informed the BBC that their motivation to contribute was “because Elias has been given so much.” He further stated, “One of our main goals was to give back to other families and see other children with smiles on their faces.” He concluded, “Everyone has come together for a sad reason, but there’s lots of good people who want to help and we didn’t expect this many presents.” BBC Wiltshire can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
