The sibling of a woman who died due to a driver impaired by alcohol and drugs has issued a strong appeal, advising individuals against operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Carol Jones lost her life in August 2016 while en route to her workplace at Harrogate Police Station. Her death was caused by a man who subsequently confessed to consuming cannabis and alcohol prior to the collision. Angie Neal, Mrs Jones’ sister, described her sibling’s death as “just devastating for the whole family”. A representative for North Yorkshire Police stated that their Christmas campaign this year recorded a 6.9% rise in drivers who tested positive for exceeding the legal limit for alcohol or drugs, when compared to the corresponding timeframe in 2022. Mrs Jones’ death occurred when Simeon Denny proceeded through a red traffic light at a speed of 60mph (97km/h) and collided with her vehicle. Denny, who resides in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, received a prison sentence of five years and nine months in 2017 for his role in Mrs Jones’ fatality. Ms Neal, reflecting on the profound effect of her sister’s loss and the difficulty of informing her elderly mother, commented: “It was a very, very tough time and still is to this day, even though we’re eight years down the line.” Supt Andy Berriman of North Yorkshire Police announced that the department plans to enhance the frequency of patrols targeting drink and drug-driving during the period leading up to Christmas. He stated, “Every year, police officers have to deliver the devastating news to people that their loved one has been killed in a collision relating to drink or drugs.” He added, “The overwhelming majority of law-abiding motorists are appalled at drink and drug-driving and will back the action taken against a small minority to make our roads safer.” Concurrently, Ms Neal implored the public to refrain from operating vehicles while impaired by alcohol or drugs. She emphasized, “It’s not worth it for those who have to suffer the consequences.” Post navigation Man Sentenced Following Burglaries at Historic Music Hall Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder of Asylum Hotel Employee
