The passing of a man subsequent to an assault outside a club has left his family with “a void that can never be filled.” Relatives of Simon Clayton characterized him as “infectiously charismatic” and stated that their world had been “ripped apart.” He died in hospital after an incident occurred outside the Waterfoot Social Club on Ashworth Street, Rossendale, at approximately 23:51 GMT on Saturday. A 60-year-old man was initially apprehended on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was released on bail pending further enquiries. Mr. Clayton, an Accrington resident, was described by his family as being “adored and loved his family dearly.” The family further commented: “He will be missed more than words can describe.” Detective Chief Inspector John McNamara expressed: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with Simon’s loved ones, at what must be an incredibly upsetting and difficult time for them.” He also stated that “this is being treated as an isolated incident, and there is not thought to be any wider threat to the public.” The detective requested assistance from the public, seeking any footage or information, “no matter how insignificant you may think it.” Post navigation Michael McMonagle receives jail sentence for child sex offences Inmate’s Death Follows Isolation and Mental Health History, Inquest Hears
