A trustee for a Plymouth cemetery has stated that families are experiencing an “emotionally draining time” following the vandalism of multiple graves. According to Devon and Cornwall Police, Ford Park Cemetery sustained vandalism between November 11 and November 12, resulting in numerous broken ornaments and scattered flowers. The trust operating the cemetery reported that a significant number of the damaged plots belonged to babies and young children. Trustee Warwick Lightfoot indicated that the installation of CCTV cameras was being considered as a response measure. Mr Lightfoot stated: “We have a special section in the cemetery of baby graves where parents can grieve and those graves have been disturbed.” He added: “No-one wants to see vandalism in the cemetery or things being pinched, but when it’s baby graves – it really is emotionally very draining for the families, parents and the wider community.” Mr Lightfoot further explained: “We’re investigating the best way in getting an effective framework of cameras to focus on the particular sites we’re looking at.” Police confirmed that inquiries are continuing and urged anyone possessing relevant information to contact the force.
