A factory employee has attributed his £1 million scratchcard win to the “stars aligned,” an event that occurred while he was out buying a loaf of bread. Luke Harris, 34, residing in Canterbury, Kent, expressed his disbelief, stating: “I keep thinking someone is going to take it all away from me and tell me it’s a prank.” Mr. Harris, who shares a home with his fiancée, Alison Coke, and their four children, mentioned that they have already acquired a new family vehicle and are in the process of selecting a wedding location. He revealed that the winning number he uncovered was 31, a figure significant to the couple as it marks their lucky number, stemming from their initial date on 31 August 2020. Mr. Harris described the evening he secured the jackpot as “just your average Wednesday night.” He recounted: “Whilst I was in the shop buying my loaf of bread, I decided to buy a scratch card on a whim. I scratched it as soon as I got in the car,” He added: “I looked at it about 10 times, and kept saying to myself, ‘This can’t be real’.” The pair attended the same school, later reconnecting through social media platforms years afterward. He explained: “We got engaged last September but had to put it on the back burner as the house was the priority,” He continued: “It took some persuading, but she finally agreed to go on a coffee date with me and now we’re now engaged to be married.” Mr. Harris intends to take his family to Lapland and aims to invest the winnings in further education to establish his own business. Ms. Coke mentioned that they had to “contain themselves” upon discovering the win, choosing to maintain their usual evening routine with their children before commemorating the event as a family with a bowling game and dinner.
