The Football Association (FA) plans to issue a reminder to Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and the club, based at Selhurst Park, regarding the prohibition of religious messages on team kits. On Saturday, during Palace’s draw against Newcastle United, England defender Guehi wore a rainbow captain’s armband that displayed the phrase ‘I love Jesus’. These armbands are part of the Rainbow Laces campaign, organized by the charity Stonewall, running from November 29 to December 5. Premier League clubs are participating to demonstrate their support for LGBTQ+ inclusion within sports. While Guehi’s actions could have led to a formal charge from the FA, sources within the organization have indicated that no such charge will be brought forward in this specific instance. According to Rule A4 of the FA’s kit and advertising regulations, it is forbidden for any “appearance on, or incorporation in, any item of clothing, football boots or other equipment of any religious message”. Separately, Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy opted not to wear a rainbow armband during his club’s Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, a decision his club attributed to his “religious beliefs”. The Portman Road club, Ipswich, is scheduled to host Crystal Palace in a Premier League match on Tuesday. Ipswich reaffirmed its dedication to “being a fully inclusive club that welcomes everyone” while also stating its respect for midfielder Morsy’s decision. Rainbow Tractors, an LGBTQ+ supporters group for Ipswich, expressed that it was “disappointed” by Morsy’s choice not to wear the armband. A spokesperson for Stonewall commented: “It has been incredible to see so many football teams at all levels support our campaign to make sport safer and more inclusive for all.” The spokesperson added: “When we see clubs show their support for LGBTQ+ inclusion, it helps people feel safe and welcome both on and off the pitch.” They further stated: “It is up to individuals to choose if and how they show their support for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.” Post navigation Statistical Preview: Luton Town vs. Stoke City Ruben Amorim: Expectations for Manchester United’s New Head Coach
