Extradition proceedings are underway for three individuals apprehended in Scotland, who are sought by Canada in relation to the demise of an Ontario restaurant proprietor. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, Robert Evans, aged 24, has been accused of the manslaughter of Sharif Rahman, which occurred in August 2023. Law enforcement officials further stated that his father, Robert Busby Evans, 47, and his uncle, Barry Evans, 54, face charges of being an accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence. Police Scotland verified the apprehension of three men, aged 54, 47, and 24, in Edinburgh and Dalkeith. These arrests were made pursuant to an active international warrant. A spokesperson for the Scottish police force indicated that they are “liaising with the relevant authorities.” It has been reported that all three individuals were taken into custody earlier this year and remain detained. Mr. Rahman, 44 years old, passed away at a hospital in London, Ontario, one week subsequent to an alleged assault that took place outside the Curry House in Owen Sound. The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement concerning an unpaid bill. The Canadian Broadcasting Organisation (CBC) conveyed that the three individuals had entered Canada on visitor visas and departed the country soon after the event. The CBC also mentioned that law enforcement later disseminated surveillance footage depicting a suspect fleeing the location and a vehicle believed to be involved. A fundraising initiative established to support Mr. Rahman’s family has accumulated $250,000CAD (£138,461). A representative for the Crown Office stated that it “did not comment on extradition matters.” Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
