Following their Sunday defeat by Liverpool, questions have arisen regarding Manchester City’s position in the title race. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, former City defender Michael Brown commented, “It has been done before but in their current form it would take something really special to turn it around.” Brown interpreted Pep Guardiola’s post-match gesture to supporters, where he apologized and referenced six Premier League titles, as an admission that “this one is too far.” Nigel Reo-Coker further stated that for City to secure the league title this season, “It would have to turn into one of the greatest-ever comeback title races in history.” While acknowledging the difficulty of dismissing Guardiola or the players given their caliber, Reo-Coker asserted that “when you dissect it there are problems.” He specifically criticized their defensive performance, describing it as “the worst I have ever seen them,” and highlighted Rodri’s crucial importance in midfield. He concluded that the team faces ongoing difficulties in midfield, regardless of player combinations, stating, “It is just not working.” Reo-Coker ultimately believes there are “too many problems to say they are still in the title race.”
