Exeter City secured a decisive 5-1 victory over their strong Devon rivals, Plymouth Argyle, in their Women’s FA Cup second-round match. This result sees Exeter City positioned fourth in the 12-team Southern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League, while Argyle holds the 11th spot. The match remained goalless midway through the first half until Exeter captain Bow Jackson cleared Charlotte Whitmore’s attempt off the goal line. Shortly before half-time, Mollie Taylor put City in the lead with a header. Six minutes into the second half, Sophie Gillies extended the lead to 2-0. Sarah Stacey then netted two goals, and Georgie Barbour-Gresham added a fifth with a header when 12 minutes remained. In stoppage time, Charlotte Whitmore scored a notable long-range goal, providing the Home Park crowd with a moment to celebrate. Exeter City assistant manager George Robinson commented on the performance to BBC Radio Devon, stating, “I thought we were excellent, second half especially we stepped it up, we showed what we were about.” He further added, “I think we did struggle to get to the pace of the game for the first 15 minutes, but I think once we got the pace of the game we looked really strong, so really happy.” Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Perks offered his perspective, saying, “I thought first 35 minutes we were the better team, probably the only thing missing was the crucial goal.” He continued, “We had one cleared off the line and probably should have scored a couple from set-pieces, but as soon as Exeter scored the first I think we were poor, I thought we crumbled.” Exeter City is scheduled to host Worthing in the third round of the competition on 8 December.
