Carlos Corberan’s anticipated departure from West Bromwich Albion, if it occurs, would inflict a substantial blow upon the Championship club, according to former midfielder Darren Carter. External reports originating from Spain indicate that a La Liga club has activated Corberan’s £2.8m release clause, with the formal announcement of his appointment reportedly imminent. The La Liga club, which previously reached the Champions League final, is currently positioned second from the bottom of the Spanish top flight, trailing safety by four points. Corberan, who is 41 years old, is a native of the Valencia region. Speaking to BBC Radio WM, Carter conveyed his high regard for Corberan’s work, stating, “I’ve been a big fan of Carlos Corberan and he’s done fantastically well with that [Albion] squad last year.” He continued by commending Corberan’s current season, adding, “He’s done fantastic this year to be in and around the play-offs with not the biggest squad or the best resources.” Carter also highlighted the importance of club investment, remarking, “You just want the club to give some indication that they’re going to back him at some point and give him the resources to kick the club on because he’s clearly got the skills to do that.” He acknowledged the inevitable interest from other teams, noting, “The problem is for West Brom fans, while he’s doing this job there’s always going to be other clubs with eyes on him.” Carter concluded by expressing regret over the likely outcome, given Corberan’s personal connections: “With it [Valencia] being his hometown club and his ties back there, you’d want it to just be speculation but unfortunately it does look like it’s going that way and it would be a big, big miss.” Post navigation Leeds United Responds to Allegations Involving Referee David Coote Live Coverage of Saturday’s Premier League Fixtures
