Everton manager Brian Sorensen has articulated his team’s strong desire to defeat local rivals Liverpool when the two sides meet at Goodison Park in the Women’s Super League this Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT. This follows Everton’s 5-0 loss to Chelsea at the same venue earlier this month. The Toffees are preparing for what will be their final appearance at the stadium, and Sorensen noted that “everyone wants to play at this iconic stadium and in a derby.” He further reflected on the venue’s historical significance, adding, “When I started looking at English football as a young kid you always heard how tough it was to go and play at Goodison Park. It’s legendary,”. Everton has yet to secure a victory at the renowned stadium and is still seeking their first win of the season. Sorensen conveyed the team’s determination, stating, “We want to win this so badly. It’s a derby but we also want to get the first win of the season. We are hoping to get that success and kickstart the season.” Additional points from his news conference included his observation that conceding a goal within 30 seconds against Crystal Palace was “not fun,” but he praised his side’s “great character” for their subsequent fightback. Regarding Honoka Hayashi, who scored Everton’s first goal by one of their own players, he commented, “The amount of grass she is covering in the pitch is unreal. She is such a composed player. We are trying to get her into more of these opportunities.” He further described her, stating, “She is such a lovely player to work with, so humble, always has a smile on her face and is never in a bad mood. She is a fantastic person but an even better football player.” Addressing the Liverpool match, he remarked, “We are not far from each other on Sunday when it really matters out there, but they probably have a bit more depth. We have to be very solid for 90 minutes”. Lucy Hope is “dealing with another problem” after missing last week’s game due to injury, but Sorensen remains hopeful about her potential availability.
