The e-scooter trial in Essex, initiated four years ago, has recorded over three million journeys. According to Essex County Council, these scooter rides have substituted close to 600,000 car journeys, spanning over 720,000 miles (more than 1.1 million km) and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 110 tonnes. The council is currently soliciting feedback from residents regarding the trial. The Department for Transport gave its approval for the trial in December 2020. Dott operates the scheme for the council across Basildon, Braintree, Chelmsford, and Colchester. A precise total of 3,123,727 journeys have been completed on the scooters, with the average distance per trip being approximately 1.2 miles (about 2km). A survey, open until 3 January 2025, invites participation from regular users, occasional users, and individuals who have not utilized an e-scooter.
