Enda McGinley, manager of Errigal Ciaran, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s advancement to the Ulster Club SFC quarter-finals following their 0-12 to 0-10 triumph against St Eunan’s on Saturday evening. The preliminary round fixture at Healy Park saw St Eunan’s, a team from Donegal, holding the lead until added time. However, a rapid three-point surge secured the win for the Tyrone champions. Ben O’Donnell contributed two points, and Thomas Canavan then confirmed the victory, setting up a clash with Antrim club Cargin. McGinley commented on the match, stating, “It was a very tense game – it was cagey and both teams didn’t hit top gear.” He further illustrated the intensity, adding, “I was wearing a watch that does your heart-rate. I’ve never had an alert on it in terms of high heart-rate but I got one this evening. That just about sums up the game.” He also reflected on the nature of the competition: “But sometimes the Ulster club championship is like that. You don’t know the opposition as well as you might” McGinley attributed his team’s display to their success in the Tyrone decider the previous weekend, where they defeated holders Trillick. He elaborated on the challenge: “It’s difficult to get focus – it was coming off the high of getting over Trillick and what that meant to the boys so it was difficult to handle that in the week and try to get the energy right for today.” Expressing his satisfaction, he added, “I’m just delighted. There were many excuses in that game to lose it – it felt like one of those games where it just wasn’t going to happen for us.” He concluded by praising his players’ resolve: “It wasn’t going to click but the boys didn’t accept those excuses and managed to get over the line. I’m delighted with how they finished.”
