Errigal Ciaran secured a 0-12 to 0-10 win against St Eunan’s in the Ulster club preliminary round at Healy Park, with three crucial points scored during stoppage time. Earlier in the game, Eoin McGeehin of St Eunan’s successfully blocked a shot from Ciaran McGinley. Donegal champions St Eunan’s held a narrow 0-5 to 0-4 advantage at halftime, following a brilliant save by Shaun Patton from Errigal’s Peter Harte’s penalty attempt. The second half remained closely contested, with Conor O’Donnell jnr putting St Eunan’s ahead as the game entered added time. However, their Tyrone adversaries mounted a comeback, as Ben McDonnell converted two points, and Thomas Canavan then sealed the victory, earning Errigal Ciaran a spot in the quarter-finals against Antrim champions Cargin. The match in Omagh saw the teams draw level on seven occasions, with Shane O’Donnell delivering an outstanding performance for the Letterkenny side, contributing 0-4. Although St Eunan’s appeared to be the stronger team for much of the second half, the prospect of extra time seemed probable until Errigal’s decisive late surge. A well-executed point from Ruairi Canavan provided Errigal with an early lead, before Conor O’Donnell jnr equalized, setting the tone for what quickly developed into a tightly contested match. During the game, Conor Morrison tackled Joe Oguz of Errigal Ciaran at Healy Park. Points from Peter Harte and Ruairi Canavan extended Errigal’s lead to two, but Conor O’Donnell jnr reduced the deficit just before a penalty was awarded in the 16th minute. Joe Oguz was fouled within the square, leading to an outstretched Shaun Patton diving to his left to block Harte’s spot-kick. Ruairi Canavan’s ’45 re-established a two-point margin, but St Eunan’s concluded the first half powerfully, scoring the final three points, with Shane O’Donnell contributing two before James Kelly secured their lead at the interval. Errigal commenced the second half with rapid scores from Odhran Robinson and Peter Harte, only for Conor O’Donnell jnr and their prominent forward Niall O’Donnell, who entered the game at halftime, to deliver swift replies. Mark Cavanagh brought the scores level once more, and Peter Og McCartan then put Errigal ahead 0-9 to 0-8. Shane O’Donnell then added another two points, the second being a remarkable score, to reinstate St Eunan’s lead before Ben O’Donnell equalized. A ’45 by Conor O’Donnell jnr with just one minute remaining appeared to secure the win for the Letterkenny team. However, Errigal ultimately prevailed with three rapid late points: two from Ben McDonnell, followed by Thomas Canavan’s decisive insurance point on the break.
