Leicestershire Police officers were granted additional powers overnight in a section of Leicester city centre, the force stated, following reports of fireworks being discharged at individuals. A Section 34 dispersal notice was put into effect at 20:30 GMT on Saturday, covering the area situated between the inner ring road and the river Soar. This measure was enacted subsequent to incidents that occurred the previous evening in the vicinity of Bath Lane. Under the provisions of the notice, police are authorized to instruct individuals to leave the designated area, and failure to comply constitutes an offence. A police spokesperson commented: “Police attended several reports of persons in the street on Bath Lane and surrounding area discharging fireworks at people and buildings.” The notice remained active until 08:00 on Sunday.
