An athlete participating in an extensive 24-hour challenge, aiming to cover 66 miles (106 km), required rescue from a mountainside after slipping and sustaining injuries to her arm and shoulder. The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team reported that the woman fell on Thursday at 13:29 GMT while descending Scafell Pike in the Lake District. The team stated that her injury rendered her completely unable to move. Rescuers secured her onto a vacuum mattress before winching her into a coastguard helicopter, which then transported her to a hospital. The Wasdale team noted that the woman had completed 42 miles (68 km) of a solo attempt to ascend and descend 42 Lake District hills within 24 hours. A spokesperson commented, “We’d like to wish the runner a very swift and full recovery.” The spokesperson added, “Hopefully once recovered she will return to complete the challenge.” The rescue operation lasted approximately four hours and 48 minutes.
