A temporary winter shelter is set to operate for a duration of three months, providing assistance to homeless individuals in Canterbury. Named the Canterbury Community Shelter, it is scheduled to commence operations on Monday and will be available nightly until March 16. This initiative will provide lodging for a maximum of 15 individuals, utilizing a different location each evening. The Catching Lives charity is responsible for operating this shelter, which will be hosted across various church and community sites, notably including Canterbury Cathedral. The charity stated: “Guests go to Catching Lives in the daytime for assessment by the Shelter coordinator to confirm their place. They return to the centre in the early evening for a meal, then the evening team walk with guests to that night’s venue where they hand over to the waking night team.” The organization further mentioned its ongoing recruitment efforts for a team of “committed and compassionate people” to assist in providing “emergency provision to people who are homeless during the coldest months of the year.” For updates, follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
