Firefighters confronted a significant fire affecting numerous caravans close to the Essex-Hertfordshire border. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving initial calls regarding a shed fire on Epping Road, Roydon, around 21:17 GMT on Friday. Nevertheless, upon reaching the scene, a team from Harlow found the incident to be considerably more extensive than anticipated. The conflagration had also consumed two caravans and multiple fence panels, subsequently extending to further caravans. Given the scale of the blaze, supplementary assistance was requested from Old Harlow fire station and Brentwood fire station in Essex, as well as from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was fully brought under control within two hours, and no injuries were reported. According to the fire service, a water relay system became necessary because of a scarcity of operational hydrants in the vicinity. All caravans affected by the fire sustained either destruction or damage. Brendan Cardy, watch manager at Harlow fire station, stated: “Crews worked tirelessly in challenging circumstances to bring the fire under control.” The origin of the fire remains unknown, and a fire investigation is scheduled to be conducted.
