Official data has revealed Elmbridge as the leading area in Surrey for uninsured driving. Figures released by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) also placed Runnymede, Reigate and Banstead, Waverley, and Surrey Heath among the five districts in the county with the highest rates. Surrey Police indicated that while the KT10 postcode topped the list of Surrey’s high-risk areas, it ranked only 74th nationally. Temporary police sergeant Martin Abel stated, “Being caught driving uninsured can affect every part of your life.” He further elaborated, “You could lose your independence and it could even impact your ability to get a new job as any driving convictions will come up on searches.” Earlier this month, Surrey Police conducted a week-long road safety initiative designed to remove uninsured drivers from the roads. Additionally, officers carried out an operation at Sandown Racecourse on 15 November, which resulted in one arrest and three vehicles being stopped for lacking insurance, one of which was subsequently seized.
