Elliott Powell, who had previously resigned from his position as Jersey FA men’s manager to focus on his responsibilities with the Bulls, recorded his initial loss as manager of Jersey Bulls. His team was defeated 2-1 by Whitstable Town in the FA Vase after allowing two goals late in the match. Having assumed leadership of the island team during the summer, Powell had maintained an undefeated streak across 20 league and cup fixtures. This run appeared set to reach 21 matches when Francis Lekimamati put the Bulls ahead in the 13th minute. However, Josh Oliver equalized for Whitstable Town with an 84th-minute penalty, and Nico Grierson secured the winning goal just two minutes later, propelling the Southern Counties East League Premier Division team into the third round. The Bulls’ challenging day was compounded by further setbacks: forward Rai Dos Santos was stretchered off after an hour, exacerbating their injury concerns, and Sammy Sutcliffe received a red card in stoppage time for a late tackle. Reflecting on the match, Powell informed BBC Radio Jersey, “The penalty was a little bit soft, but it felt inevitable after that unfortunately.” He added, “They put just a little bit too much pressure on us and probably for the first time this season we looked like creaking, and unfortunately we did.” Powell concluded, “It’s not a great day at the office, but at least it allows us to focus on the league.” In the Combined Counties Premier South league, the Bulls currently trail the leaders by seven points, holding at least three games in hand over the teams above them. Although promotion remains Powell’s primary goal, he expressed disappointment that his team’s aspirations of competing at Wembley have now concluded. He stated, “That carrot of Wembley is tantalising and you want to be that step closer every single time.” Powell further commented, “I thought it was quite a favourable draw for whoever got through this one, so it is a frustrating one.” Nevertheless, Powell emphasized that “the priority from the board and from the club has been the league campaign and getting out of step five.” He concluded, “We need to focus on that now, we’d like to have been attacking on all fronts, but it’s not to be and we need to dust ourselves down and go again.” Post navigation Supporter Reactions Following Brentford’s 4-2 Premier League Win Against Newcastle McDonnell Attributes Defeat to ‘Gifted’ Goals
