Electrical Fire Renders Three Residential Units Uninhabitable

An electrical cupboard fire has rendered three residential units uninhabitable. The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service reported that emergency teams responded to the incident in Market Place, Saffron Walden, around 11:47 GMT on Thursday, following numerous 999 calls. The service further stated that the blaze, which involved an “electrical installation,” was brought under control within 45 minutes, and an inquiry into its origin has commenced. The building sustained considerable smoke and fire damage, and nearby businesses experienced a power outage as a direct consequence of the blaze. The fire service commended bar personnel for their swift action in evacuating the premises. It was also noted that “The fire, which involved an electrical installation, made initial firefighting efforts challenging.” Kevin Jenner, a station manager, stated: “The building has suffered extensive smoke and fire damage, leaving three residential flats uninhabitable.” He added: “Businesses in the area were also impacted due to a power outage caused by the fire.” Furthermore, he mentioned: “Crews worked alongside UK Power Networks to make the area safe and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.”
