An organization dedicated to assisting elderly and vulnerable individuals announced the necessity of moving one of its services over 18 miles (29km) due to financial constraints. Age Well East’s primary office, currently situated on North Hill in Colchester, is scheduled to relocate to Imperial House on Rosemary Road in Clacton starting in January. The charity stated that individuals presently participating in its clubs and events at the current location would be offered assistance in locating alternative groups within the city to “ensure a smooth transition.” This organization manages initiatives benefiting over 4,000 individuals confronting challenges such as poverty, social isolation, ill health, dementia, and bereavement. While the North Hill facility is slated for closure, all other community-based services and groups operated by the charity will proceed without interruption. These offerings encompass dementia-inclusive friendship cafes, online friendship groups, and a fish and chips club. The charity attributed the relocation to the prevailing economic climate, escalating costs, and financial pressures. Furthermore, the existing hub is not operating at its maximum capacity, a situation attributed to an increase in staff working remotely or within the community, and clubs being held at other venues in Colchester. Tom Harrison, the Chief Executive, stated: “We need to ensure we use our budget wisely to help those people who need us most.” Kelly Le Friant, the fundraising and marketing manager, expressed her belief that this change might offer certain advantages. She commented: “The move signals an opportunity for us to maintain and grow our effective support for people in our community at a time of increasing need.” For updates on Essex news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
