An octogenarian has died following a collision involving a lorry. Northumbria Police reported that the individual, a pedestrian, was struck by a Scania HGV on the A1 southbound, near the Metrocentre in Gateshead, at approximately 10:15 GMT. A segment of the road was subsequently closed to traffic in both directions for a duration of about four hours. The police force confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and the driver of the lorry remained present to assist law enforcement personnel. Sergeant Dave Roberts stated that “police were keen to hear from any motorists who were in the area at the time.” Investigators suspect a connection between the pedestrian and a white Ford Edge vehicle discovered parked in the vicinity.
