An eight-year-old boy, moved by the sight of individuals sleeping on the streets, has generated over £800 from bake sales, specifically “to help keep them warm.” Alfie, while in Middlesbrough with his mother, encountered a homeless woman. He was so “sad” by this sight that he entered a shop and purchased food for her. The young boy, who resides in Coulby Newham, subsequently chose to organize a bake sale in his garage with an initial goal of raising £50. Nevertheless, the family found it necessary to acquire a gazebo for their front garden as his sales began to draw a large number of attendees. Alfie stated: “We had a little bake sale and it turned into a massive cafe and more than 100 people came in one night.” He added: “We are going to keep raising money because we want to keep people warm.” Anna, Alfie’s mother, explained that he initially aimed for £50 but grew more ambitious as his bake sales gained popularity. She commented: “We kept pushing the target up and up and thought that raising £150 would be amazing, but then it really spiralled.” The funds generated are designated to purchase supplies for Middlesbrough Council’s In Out of the Cold project and for the Nite Lite CIC charity, which offers food and drink to individuals requiring assistance. A spokeswoman representing Nite Lite remarked: “We would like to thank Alfie, what he has done is just brilliant. “To be eight years old and have that much caring and compassionate is amazing.” For updates, follow BBC Tees on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram.
