An eight-year-old boy, who is currently traveling the globe in an attempt to break a world record, has shared details of some of his “super-cool” adventures. Jamie, from Preston, recently returned from Antarctica and is believed to be the youngest British individual to have visited all seven continents. He has so far traveled to 85 countries with his mother, engaging in activities such as planting trees in Borneo, assisting with school construction in Tanzania, and staying with a Maasai tribe in Zanzibar. Jamie, who receives schooling during his travels, expressed his enjoyment of his unique globetrotting life, adding: “It’s lots of fun. I get to learn things as I travel and not just in a classroom.” Jamie intends to visit 197 countries as part of his goal to establish a Guinness world record for being the youngest person to visit all sovereign countries. His mother, Hayley, stated that they did not embark on their adventures with a world record in mind. She explained that they “just had wanderlust in their souls” after Jamie’s father passed away when Jamie was six months old. The 45-year-old, who was a personal trainer before co-founding the travel business Making Travel Pay, remarked that this experience made them realize “how precious life actually is.” Jamie described his most recent trip to Antarctica aboard the HX Hurtigruten as “amazing.” He commented, “It was like no place I have been before.” Hayley noted that HX Hurtigruten Expeditions allowed Jamie to participate in its science research program, where he received lessons from its team of leading scientists. Other notable experiences from his extensive travels include Tanzania, where he observed the “big five”—elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard; Lapland, where he met Father Christmas; and Egypt, where he viewed the pyramids. Jamie also had the opportunity to reside with a Maasai warrior in a hut, sharing it with goats, chickens, and dogs. Jamie recalled, “We milked cows, learnt how to be a warrior and mum drank goats blood.” Hayley mentioned that he is being “world-schooled” and has a tutor assisting him with maths and English. She added that he also learns from the people he encounters during his adventures. Jamie stated that his friends from Preston found his globetrotting “pretty cool.” While he admitted missing roast dinners when he was away, he was willing to try new foods, including crocodile bites, which he discovered at a Thailand street market. Hayley further added: “We’ve had so many highs and experienced so many incredible moments together.” She continued, “It hasn’t all been smooth sailing… but as a family we have grown from them together.” She concluded, “We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
