A bonfire society has announced that its effigy for this year’s event will depict Ticketmaster and the Gallagher brothers. The Edenbridge Bonfire Society stated that the 11-meter (36-foot) effigy, scheduled to be ignited during the bonfire celebrations on Saturday, was selected due to Ticketmaster’s “greedy” dynamic pricing model for tickets to the forthcoming Oasis reunion tour. The society, located in Kent, explained that the Ticketmaster sculpture features accompanying puppets of Liam and Noel Gallagher because the Oasis tour was the event that highlighted the issue of dynamic pricing. For over 25 years, the organization has been “poking fun at infamous celebrities,” with past subjects including Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, and Sadiq Khan in 2023. Reece Hook, one of the effigy’s creators, commented: “In the eight years I’ve been doing this we have done so many politicians, so this year we really wanted to do something different.” He added: “Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher, they are not our target – it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year. We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a very successful tour.” Dynamic pricing involves ticket costs rising in correlation with demand. Earlier this year, fans attempting to purchase tickets for the Oasis reunion tour faced prices up to £350. Oasis informed the PA Media news agency that they were not notified about the implementation of dynamic pricing prior to the ticket sale. Organizers anticipate approximately 10,000 attendees at this year’s bonfire event. The not-for-profit organization has operated for over 95 years, utilizing the bonfire celebrations as a means to generate funds for local charities. The event will commence with a procession through the town at 18:30 GMT, concluding with a fireworks display at 20:30.
