Government funding has been secured for the £50 million Eden Project Morecambe, a local Member of Parliament has announced. This prospective ecological visitor destination, situated beside Morecambe Bay in Lancashire, had previously been allocated £50 million from the former government’s Levelling Up initiative, a commitment that the Labour party had not yet confirmed. Lizzi Collinge, the Labour MP representing Morecambe and Lunesdale, previously informed BBC Radio Lancashire: “£50m is in the bag and Eden Project Morecambe is going ahead.” Collinge stated that the initiative, projected for completion in either 2027 or 2028, is expected to generate 1,400 employment opportunities locally and draw “nearly one million visitors every year” to the locality. She characterized the project as signifying a “transformation for Morecambe,” a place she noted had been “left behind for years.” Collinge indicated that the necessary documentation between the project’s collaborators, Lancaster City Council and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, was anticipated to be finalized within the next few weeks. Si Bellamy, the project’s director of transformation, confirmed that a definitive business proposal was handed in at the close of August. Eden Project Morecambe, which serves as a companion attraction to the inaugural Eden Project located in Cornwall, is characterized as a “global garden” and is planned to incorporate expansive shell-shaped structures offering views of Morecambe Bay. Its inauguration is foreseen for either 2027 or 2028.
