Ed Kelce, father of Travis Kelce, has indicated he will not be spending a large sum on Taylor Swift’s birthday present. He explained that a personal gift costing $10 (£8) is preferable to an expensive item intended to impress her. The American pop star, who celebrated her 35th birthday on Friday, has been in a relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce since last summer. Ed Kelce stated, “You’re not going to crush Taylor Swift with a gift that cost, you know, $100,000 (£80,000).” He continued, “You’ve got to get something that tweaks the strings of her heart that you spend 10 bucks on,” adding, “Then she’ll just be all gooey. You’ve got to find something that triggers the emotion.” Speaking on the Baskin and Phelps podcast, Ed Kelce remarked that “the amount of money is meaningless” when selecting a gift for the singer. He drew a parallel to purchasing gifts for his two sons, noting, “There’s nothing they want that they don’t already have.” Instead, he clarified, “You have to look beyond that. You’ve got to dig down and come up with something special.” Travis Kelce is a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, while his brother, Jason Kelce, is a retired player for the Philadelphia Eagles. Last weekend marked the conclusion of Swift’s Eras world tour, which encompassed 152 concerts across 21 months and reportedly generated over $2bn (£1.58bn) in ticket sales. The artist characterized the record-breaking tour as “the most extraordinary chapter of my life so far.” During the final performance on Sunday in Vancouver, Canada, attendees serenaded the singer with “Happy Birthday.” Her birthday followed by one day her achievement of making history as the recipient of the highest number of Billboard Music Awards. In a pre-recorded acceptance speech, Swift commented, “This is like the nicest early birthday present you could have given me, so thank you very much.” She added, “I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted.” At Thursday’s ceremony, Swift secured 10 awards, among them top artist and top Billboard 200 album for The Tortured Poets Department. This achievement elevated Swift’s total Billboard Awards to 49, establishing her as the artist with the most wins, surpassing Drake’s 41. Additional awards she received this year included top female artist, top Hot 100 artist, and top Hot 100 songwriter. Swift indicated she regarded these as fan-voted categories, given their reliance on chart data. She stated, “You guys are the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert.” Swift expressed, “Everything that has happened with the Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you.” She continued, “It means the world to me that you guys have embraced the things I’ve made, and the fact that you’ve cared so much about my music.” British artists Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Charli XCX also received awards at the ceremony; Charli XCX specifically earned top dance/electronic artist and album for Brat.
