Carl Jones, a resident of Eckington, Worcestershire, has merged his passion for art and confectionery by converting a table into an oversized bourbon biscuit. He embarked on this endeavor after discovering the solid wood table advertised for free on Facebook. Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Jones stated, “The dimensions of the top, to me, randomly just screamed bourbon biscuit.” Initially, Mr. Jones, employed as a transporter at a local car dealership, intended to simply paint the table. However, he later opted to elevate the project. He noted that he did not fully grasp the table’s substantial size until he collected it. He described the item, saying, “It’s about a metre and a half long and it’s very, very heavy.” Mr. Jones meticulously carved the name of the sweet treat into the wooden surface. Additionally, he recreated the distinctive steam holes, which are typically incorporated to prevent the biscuit from cracking during its baking. Drawing upon his expertise in colour matching, acquired during his prior employment as a signwriter, he endeavoured to replicate the original biscuit’s hue as accurately as possible on the table. Furthermore, he drew inspiration from various sources, consuming close to 50 bourbon biscuits throughout the development of his creation. Mr. Jones informed BBC Hereford & Worcester that he is already conceptualizing his subsequent project, though he is awaiting the discovery of a table of appropriate dimensions. He remarked, “Who doesn’t love a custard cream?” For more from BBC Hereford & Worcester, follow them on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
