A decision regarding the implementation of a new bus lane in Eastbourne is pending a forthcoming meeting, following expressions of concern from local residents. The East Sussex County Council (ESCC) is scheduled to convene on Monday to review proposals for establishing this new route along the A259, Seaside, and St Anthony’s Avenue, integrated into broader enhancement initiatives. The local authority initiated a consultation process on these plans in July, which drew criticism from certain residents and businesses who cited worries about potential congestion, air quality degradation, and parking issues. According to the documentation prepared for the meeting, the updated proposals have received a recommendation for approval. The council previously stated that the proposed lane is intended to enhance the reliability of bus services and reduce travel durations for up to 14,000 weekly passengers. The local authority had previously modified its plans for the bus lane after conducting an additional public consultation in 2023.
