Dundee manager Tony Docherty is optimistic that the club’s collaborative relationship with Burnley will facilitate the extension of Oluwaseun Adewumi’s loan agreement for the remainder of the current season. The 19-year-old Austria Under-21 attacking midfielder has made a positive impact since joining from the Clarets on a deal set to conclude in January, having scored twice across 10 appearances. Docherty expressed his desire to secure the extension, stating, “Of course I would like to. That’s something we’ll be endeavouring to do.” He emphasized the club’s strategic alliances, adding, “We’ve got a good partnership with Burnley. We’ve also got that partnership with [Mexican club] Monterrey, it’s really forward thinking by the club.” Docherty further elaborated on the importance of retaining talented players: “If you can get good players – Seun being an example of that – you want to keep them and work with them for as long as you can. So that’s something as a club we’ll be endeavouring to do.” Adewumi has only three matches remaining in his current loan period, but he is currently facing fitness concerns for Saturday’s upcoming fixture against Rangers at Ibrox. This follows an injury sustained at half-time during Dundee’s previous match, a 2-0 defeat to Hearts on 7 December, which forced him off the field. Commenting on Adewumi’s recent form, Docherty noted, “His recent performances [have been good].” He also addressed the injury, explaining, “He picked up a wee knock against Hearts, his quad, and come off in the second half for that reason so we’ll monitor him.” Docherty concluded by stressing the player’s value: “But Seun is a really important member of the squad and when you’re going into a run of games in the business end of the season you want your best players.”
